FLORAL PARK, NY — A developer has been granted preliminary approval to construct an apartment complex in Floral Park on a site where a fire four years ago caused serious damage, the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency said.

Constantine and Michael Hatzidakis propose constructing a 35,808-square-foot, 12-unit, market-rate residential building, including 6,166 square feet of ground-floor retail space and parking at 41-61 Covert Ave. It will cost $11.6 million, the IDA announced.

The complex will feature 10 one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom units.

The benefits package is subject to further IDA review, a public hearing and a final authorizing resolution.

"This proposed project will remove a long-blighted site while adding to the town’s
growing stock of much-needed rental housing," Fred Parola, CEO of the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency, said.
