Arrest Made In Machete Robbery At A Notorious Apartment Building

The 51-year-old New Rochelle man is accused of threatening the use of a machete at the residential building well-known to police.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A notorious New Rochelle Municipal Housing Authority building near the New Rochelle Montefiore Hospital is once again grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons.

On July 17, at about 1 p.m., New Rochelle police arrested 51-year-old Tyrone McGhee, of New Rochelle, for a robbery that happened on July 3.

McGhee is accused of unlawfully being on the New Rochelle Municipal Housing Authority property at 111 Lockwood Avenue where he is also accused of robbing a victim by threatening the use of a machete.

He was spotted again on July 17, walking on Lockwood Avenue. When McGhee was approached by police, he ran behind 41 Lockwood Avenue and then over a fence and into a building located at 400 North Avenue. He was then seen climbing out of a rear window onto a fire escape but was eventually taken into custody.

McGhee faces a felony robbery charge and a misdemeanor trespassing charge in connection to the July 3, robbery.

Just weeks earlier, police arrested a trespasser at the same residential building, who was found with 30 grams of crack-cocaine, heroin, powder cocaine and brass knuckles, according to police.
