Wind Chill Watch: Dangerous Weather in Westchester

The National Weather Service has updated its special weather notice for southern Westchester County:

• Wind Chill Watch in effect from February 13, 04:00 PM EST until February 14, 12:00 PM EST
• Special Weather Statement

The Watch also encompasses an earlier start, at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Because temperatures could reach 5 degrees below zero, with northwest winds of 10-20 mph, the wind chill factor could go as low as 25 below, the NWS says. The combination has the potential to result in frostbite and hypothermia in living things and frozen pipes in people’s homes.

“Please take this weekend’s weather seriously,” says Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. “Conditions like these are not just uncomfortable, they are potentially dangerous if you get caught outside unprepared for any length of time.”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo urged New Yorkers to be cautious and his administration issued safety tips.
