2023 Voters Guide: South Orangetown

Voters in the South Orangetown school district will be going to the polls in four districts Tuesday. Here's what you need to know.

ORANGETOWN, NY — Voters around Rockland County will be going to the polls Tuesday to approve their school district's budget, including the South Orangetown district.

Also on the ballot are elections for two school board seats. The candidates’ names, in the order they will appear on the ballot, are:

  • Seat 1: Katie Gravino, Leon Jacobs (incumbent)
  • Seat 2: Dawn Kitz, Diana Korabel

Voters in the district are being asked to approve a $108,815,021 spending plan for the 2023-24 fiscal year. That represents a budget increase of 7.15 percent and a 2.08 percent increase in the property tax levy.

The budget expands district-based special education classes; increases security at all four schools including staffing, safety and security camera upgrades and additions at all buildings; and expands intramural and interscholastic sports.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

  • DISTRICT 2: / Orangeburg residents: Tappan Zee High School, 15 Dutch Hill Road, Orangeburg
  • DISTRICT 3 / Tappan residents: William O. Schaefer Elementary School, 140 Lester Drive, Tappan
  • DISTRICT 4 / Grandview, Palisades, Piermont & Sparkill residents: Tappan Zee Education Center (formerly Tappan Zee Elementary). 561 Route 9W, Piermont
