Nyack School Budget, Capital Project On The Ballot May 16

There will also be a Board of Education election, as terms are up for three trustees.

NYACK, NY — New York's 2023 school budget and board vote — and library budget in some cases — is May 16, and three seats are up for election on the Nyack Board of Education.

Terms are up for Trustees Jen Marraccino, Beth Davidson and James Marshall. Davidson is not seeking re-election. Running for the three seats:

  • Michael Rothenbucher
  • Jennifer Marraccino
  • Jessica Goodman
  • James Marshall
  • Benny Vasquez
  • Jennifer Manca

The proposed spending plan of $104,364,414 is 4.2 percent higher than the current budget.

2023-24 Proposed Budget

It includes replacement of the roof on the Professional Learning Center and work connected to the new traffic light, including reconfiguration of the southern entrance of Nyack High School, sidewalk improvements and a crosswalk with audible and visual signs.

Also on the ballot, in a separate proposition, district officials will ask voters for authorization for three things connected to the Capital Reserve Fund:

  • to spend up to $1,730,414 to fund, in part, the replacement of boilers in Upper Nyack Elementary School, Liberty Elementary School and the Hilltop Administration Building together with the replacement and/or addition of associated piping, controls, motors and gas lines and payment of any professional fees, from the unexpended balance of the monies held in the Capital Reserve Fund 2010 and the Capital Reserve Fund 2015 up to a sum not to exceed $840,000.00
  • to expend an amount not to exceed $1,160,000 from the Capital Reserve Fund 2015 to fund, in part, the installation of air conditioning and related electrical system upgrades throughout the District’s facilities
  • to increase the ultimate amount of the Capital Reserve Fund 2015 to $25,000,000 plus interest earnings

A budget hearing is scheduled for May 2.

Voters may register online with the New York Department of Motor Vehicles or with the Rockland County Board of Elections, 11 New Hempstead Road, New City, New York 10956 (845-638-5172).

A registered voter who will be unable to vote in person on the day of the election must first complete an ABSENTEE BALLOT APPLICATION which can be downloaded or obtained from the District Clerk by mail or in person at the Nyack Schools Administration Building, 13A Dickinson Avenue, Nyack.

Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or the voter’s designated agent.

Absentee ballots must be returned to the District Clerk's Office by 5 p.m. May 16.
