Truck Fire Sunday Causes Backup On The New York State Thruway

The incident closed all but one lane of the southbound side of the Thruway temporarily, but all lanes were open within 80 minutes.

NYACK, NY — A box truck snarled traffic on the New York State Thruway in Nyack after it caught fire Sunday evening.

State police told Patch that Tyler P. Carden, 23, of Schuylerville, NY, was driving a 2019 General Motors Box Truck south on I-87 when the truck caught fire at 7:18 p.m., for an unknown mechanical reason.

No injuries were reported.

The incident closed all but one lane of the southbound side of the Thruway. The left lane remained open to traffic. The center lane reopened after about an hour. All lanes were open by 8:35 p.m., police said.
