Flash Flood Warning In Effect For Nassau County

BREAKING: "Up to one inch of rain has already fallen. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected," the National Weather Service says.

A flash flood warning is in effect for Nassau County until 4 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service says.

At 1254 p.m., doppler radar indicated rain and embedded thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area, the weather service says. Up to two inches of rain has already fallen. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

The National Weather Service warns: "Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.
