Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Long Island

Snow and sleet possibly mixed with freezing rain may create hazardous conditions during the Monday evening commute.

The National Weather Service has issued the following hazardous weather outlook for Long Island:

A light wintry mix of precipitation is expected late Monday afternoon into the early evening. Freezing rain may mix in with snow and sleet which would lead to hazardous conditions on untreated surfaces.

The wintry weather is expected from about 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. so it could be a slick ride home during the evening commute.

The good news: things will finally warm up a little bit this week.

Sunday Night- Increasing clouds, with a steady temperature around 16. Wind chill values between zero and 5. Southwest wind 7 to 11 mph.

Monday- Snow and sleet likely, possibly mixed with freezing rain after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. Southwest wind 7 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday Night- Snow and sleet likely, possibly mixed with freezing rain before 9pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 29. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday- Sunny, with a high near 40. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. West wind 10 to 14 mph.

Tuesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 23. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Wednesday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 38.

Wednesday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32.

Thursday- Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47.
