Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Long Island

The latest on the first expected snowfall of the season.

The National Weather Service has issued the following hazardous weather outlook for Long Island:

A coastal low will impact the area late Thursday afternoon into Friday evening. This will bring a wintry mix of snow and sleet late Thursday afternoon then changing to all rain Thursday night through Friday evening. Minor accumulations are expected. Although the duration of the wintry mix will be limited as the precipitation changes to all rain, some impacts appear likely at this time during the afternoon and evening commute.

The full forecast:

Tonight- Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northeast wind 7 to 11 mph.

Thursday- A slight chance of snow and sleet between 10am and 1pm, then rain, snow, and sleet. High near 39. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. East wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected.

Thursday Night- Rain. Temperature rising to around 43 by 4am. Wind chill values between 25 and 35. Breezy, with an east wind 18 to 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday- Rain, mainly before 11am. High near 45. Breezy, with an east wind 15 to 22 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 35.

Saturday- Sunny, with a high near 47.

Saturday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 33.
