Heat Advisory Issued For Nassau County

Besides the unbearable heat, thunderstorms in the afternoon are also possible.

Nassau County residents are about to get hit with a heat wave that will put the heat index in the upper 90s.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Nassau County from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

A heat advisory is used when the combination of heat and humidity make it feel like 95 to 99 degrees for two or more days in a row, or 100 to 104 degrees for any time period.

The highest heat index values will occur in the afternoon, the NWS says.

The NWS urges residents to be careful when working outside. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded areas or in air conditioning.

Anyone suffering from the heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

In the event of a heat stoke, call 911.
