Long Island Weather: Hour-by-Hour Drop to a -1 Wind Chill, High Wind Warning in Effect

Plus the latest snowfall projections for this weekend.

Before you head to bed tonight, you are going to want to assemble at least 10 layers of clothing for Friday. In fact, you may just want to wrap yourself in a few blankets and head to work like that.

A high wind warning is in effect for Long Island until 6 a.m. Friday. Wind gusts could approach 60 mph overnight, the National Weather Service says.

The temperature will be in the mid-teens Friday morning, but combined with the wind, it will feel like -1 degree at 5 a.m. Check out the hour-by-hour forecast below.

The strongest winds are expected from about 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. The wind could blow down trees and power lines, causing widespread power outages. As of 9:16 p.m., PSEG Long Island is only reporting that 145 of its customers are without power out of more than 1.1 million across the island. That will likely change as the night progresses, though. Find the PSEG outage map here.

The wind will calm down by mid-morning, but the temperature won't get out of the mid-20s Friday. And then we welcome some snow to the region late Friday and Saturday morning. A total of 1-3 inches of snow is expected across the island.

The snow should change over to rain by about 8 a.m. Saturday. The rain will continue into the afternoon, but it will about 20 degrees warmer than Friday, the NWS says. More rain is then in forecast for Sunday, when the high temperature will be near 54 degrees.
