Long Island Finally Gets Chilly Fall Weather— For Now

It may be time to bust out those fall jackets for good. Or at least until later this week.

After a mostly mild start to the fall season, it may be time for Long Islanders to finally take those warm coats and scarves out of storage for good.

A cold air mass moved into the tri-state area overnight, which means it will finally start to feel like fall on Long Island.

"The coldest airmass of the Fall season so far will be ushered in tonight," the National Weather Service said Monday morning. "Frosty conditions are expected across far outlying areas as temperatures drop into the lower to mid 30s."

A frost advisory was issued for parts of northern New Jersey, the Hudson Valley and Connecticut, though Long Island just missed out on that designation.
