Osprey, Beach Cams Bring Oyster Bay To You

OYSTER BAY, NY — The town's new website, Oyster Bay Today, aims to attract tourism and support local businesses and downtowns.

It's meant to be interactive, not only delivering event listings, business spotlights, historical tidbits, and local-interest stories, but bringing them to life with engaging and informative videos.

And to give visitors to the website a real taste of the town, it also provides links so you can watch, live, two things that are iconic to Oyster Bay: web cams for Tobay Beach and the osprey nest.

Better tune in quick to the osprey cam, which is a project of PSEG Long Island, because those chicks aren't so little anymore.

“We were proud to work with PSEG to help save the Osprey in Oyster Bay," Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino told Patch. "This protected species have become beloved symbols of our area and are an important indicator of our ecosystem. We’re thrilled to see they have taken well to their new home, and are pleased to share them with the community through the webcam."

The Tobay cam is great not only for a quick look at conditions but also a chance to vicariously enjoy a beach day if you're stuck at a desk.

Also, visitors to the site can get preview videos of all the performers in the town's Music Under The Stars concert series, meet the owners of their neighborhood’s newest restaurant or retail store, check out the calendar and enjoy micro-documentaries about local people, places, and events.

"Oyster Bay Today helps bring our residents right into the heart of their local communities and the ability to view these webcams brings them even closer," Saladino told Patch. "We will continue to add more and more local merchants, recreational opportunities and available programs for residents to see all that our Town has to offer."
