1 Killed, 1 Critically Injured In Cortlandt Car Crash

Police said the 17-year-old who died lost control of the car, struck a utility pole and then struck a tree.

CORTLANDT, NY — A Putnam County man was killed when he lost control of his car and crashed into a utility pole and a tree.

The New York State Police said the crash happened around 8 p.m. Friday on Albany Post Road/Route 9 in the town of Cortlandt.

An investigation found Vladislav Saban, 17, of Cold Spring, was driving a 2012 Toyota Prius south on Route 9 when he sideswiped a Subaru Forester while passing illegally on the right shoulder.

Saban lost control of the car, struck a utility pole and then struck a tree.

Garrison and Continental Village fire departments, along with Peekskill EMS, extracted Saban from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

An unresponsive 16-year-old girl was found in the rear of the Prius during the extraction, police said. She was taken to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition.
