Because of a history of repeated flooding, and because the traffic circle has been found to be hazardous, NYS has planned a two-year renovation of the heavily used roundabout. The reconstruction will involve the road being raised six feet. Officials say that the circle will be smaller and will reduce the need for merging.

The project will extend to the entrance of Camp Smith at Rt. 202, the NYSDOT Yard at Rt. 9, and to the north end of the Jan Peeck bridge, according to the town.

The DOT says that the roadway will not close, but there will be lane shifts and lane closures, and delays should be expected. All businesses on the traffic circle, including the Mobil gas station and the Table 9 restaurant, will remain open.

In addition, the town separately announced that milling and paving operations are scheduled to begin this week. The work is expected to take five to seven days, and is weather-dependent. No parking will be allowed on the following roads, between the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., on the days the work is being performed:

  • North St.
  • Glen Lane
  • Sunset Ave.
  • Sunset Rd. (between Kings Ferry Rd. and Montrose Point Rd.)
  • Dutch St. (between Rt. 9A and Sunset Rd.)
  • Lisa Court
  • Crugers Rd.
