Damaging Wind Gusts, Thunderstorms In Forecast For Hudson Valley

The National Weather Service issued wind advisories and hazardous weather outlooks for the entire region for Saturday into Sunday.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Hang onto your hats, keep your umbrellas handy, and make sure your outside Christmas decorations are secure, Hudson Valley. There are wind advisories and hazardous weather outlooks for the entire region.

The National Weather Service hazardous weather and strong, damaging winds are possible for both the lower and mid-Hudson Valley for Saturday afternoon into early Sunday morning.

For Orange, Rockland, Putnam and Westchester counties, the wind advisory begins at 3 p.m. Saturday and ends at 4 a.m. Sunday.

The forecast calls for southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

In addition, the hazardous weather outlook calls for heavier showers and thunderstorms possible Saturday evening and which could produce damaging wind gusts to near 60 mph.

For Dutchess and eastern Ulster counties, the wind advisory starts at 5 p.m. Saturday and ends at 4 a.m. Sunday.

What is expected are southwest to west winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph.

For Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties, the hazardous weather outlook said there is also a chance of thunderstorms late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night with gusty winds possible.

The weather service said gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Large tree limbs and isolated trees could be blown down and power outages may result.
