Downtown Revitalization Projects Announced For Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, NY – On Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the list of projects set for Peekskill as part of the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative in the mid-Hudson area.

Peekskill was named a DRI Round 4 winner in August 2019 and has plans to build upon its success creating a downtown center. With the award, the city plans improve connectivity between the scenic waterfront, transit centers and the downtown mixed-use community.

Cuomo announced 12 projects for Peekskill and seven projects for Baldwin, Long Island, which also received the DRI award.

The specific projects for Peekskill include:

  • Redevelopment of 41 N Division Street as the primary home of the Peekskill Arts Center on the ground floor, multi-media production spaces in the basement and new micro-apartments on the two upper floors.
  • Renovating the Kiley Youth Center as a new location for the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester.
  • Renovating the building facade and marquee and improving interior spaces at the Paramount Theater.
  • Creating a fund to help small businesses in the DRI area make capital improvements.
  • Implementing public wifi in Lepore and Pugsley Parks and low-cost internet service for Bohlmann Towers and Barham Senior Houses.
  • Creating the Peekskill Plaza on S. Division Street by converting two lanes to a pedestrian civic space.
  • Improving connections for pedestrians and cyclists between the waterfront and downtown.
  • Developing a brand for Peekskill that describes the city's history and culture.
  • Improving Pugsley Park, including creating new plazas and seating areas.
  • Improving Monument Park, including enhancing lighting and maintenance.
  • Reconstructing Fleischmann Pier to support tour boats.
