Westmoreland Sanctuary, 260 Chestnut Ridge Road, Mount Kisco
Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Seven miles of trails are open daily for hiking, while the nature center offers a variety of public programs on weekends.

Hudson River Museum and Planetarium, 511 Warburton Ave., Yonkers

Open 12 to 5 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday, the museum focuses on the maritime history of the Hudson River

Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, 1701 Main Street, Peekskill

Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Tuesday through Thursday by appointment only.
The center hosts a citywide exhibition of artwork.

Katonah Museum of Art, 134 Jay St. (Route 22), Katonah

Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The museum features an interactive Children’s Learning Center where children can learn about and create art.

Museum at the John Jay Homestead, 400 Jay Street, Katonah

The historic site offers special exhibits and a chance to step back into history.

Edward Hopper House Art Center, 82 North Broadway, Nyack

Historical Society of Rockland County, 20 Zukor Road, New City

Open noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The museum has thousands of objects that date back to the early 18th century.

Town of Ramapo Challenger Center, 225 Route 59, Airmont

The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend hours vary. The center offers interactive learning experience in science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as planetarium shows.

Putnam

The Putnam Children’s Discovery Center, 854 Route 6, Mahopac
Hands-on science exhibits for toddlers to teens, from fantasy play areas and puppet shows to workshops in magic, art, chess, computers, and drama.

Boscobel House and Gardens, 1601 Route 9D, Garrison

The elegant Federal era period house museum offers insight into area history and the grounds also boast hiking trails. From April 1 to October 31, the museum is open from 9:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday. From Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, it is open 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is closed from January through March.

Mid Hudson Valley

FDR Presidential Library and Museum, 4079 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park

Learn about Franklin Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt, the New Deal and World War II. Hours are 9 to 5 p.m. November through March, 9 a.m.to 6 p.m. April through October.

Dia Beacon, 3 Beekman Street, Beacon

Imaginative art in a vast space. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Monday, from January through March, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Monday, from April through October, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. November through December.

Mid Hudson Children's Museum, 75 North Water Street, Poughkeepsie

Exhibits that get kids moving, exploring and creating. The museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Senate House State Historic Site, 296 Fair Street, Kingston

Offers a glimpse of colonial life as the site was a meeting place during the Revolutionary War. April 15 through October 31, the museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. From November 1 through April 14 visits are by appointment only.
