A GoFundMe page, which was set up for his mother Tamika Sims and sister Sarayah and raised $12,433 of its $10,000 goal, described McKenzie as a well-rounded teen who was actively involved with his church, holding down a part-time job, and scheduled to start college in the fall on a full scholarship to play lacrosse. "He had a promising future," said page organizer Winter Henderson.

McKenzie, 17, was killed Friday after an argument with Jahliv Niles, 18.

Peekskill police investigators concluded that at some point the dispute became physical, and Niles stabbed McKenzie in the chest with a knife and ran away. McKenzie then traveled a short distance to 214 N. Broad St., where he collapsed in the front entranceway.
