More Rain, Flash Floods Possible In Hudson Valley

With the ground already saturated from last week's heavy rain, the Hudson Valley could see flash floods as more precipitation falls.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Now that the rain from the morning hours has left the Hudson Valley, we can likely expect more precipitation for the start of the workweek — and through the weekend.

That is evidenced by the National Weather Service issuing flash flood watches for the entire region.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties, the flash flood watch goes into effect at 2 p.m. Monday until 2 a.m. Tuesday.

In Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, the watch is in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop Monday afternoon in the vicinity of a warm front, the weather service said.

As the front sinks to the south Monday night it will continue to focus on thunderstorm activity and heavy rain potential.

Important to keep in mind is the fact that the rain will be falling in areas already affected by heavy rain and flash flooding from last week.

For Orange County and the lower Hudson Valley, rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are likely, with localized amounts over 4 inches possible.

In Dutchess and Ulster counties, scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could produce locally heavy rainfall, which may result in localized flash flooding especially in poor drainage and urban areas.
