Peekskill School Board & Budget Election Results Are In

The voters decided on the $123M Peekskill schools budgets and which candidates will serve on the board of education.

PEEKSKILL, NY — The ballots are in and voters have decided on the 2024 budget and school board.

Two seats were up for election on the Peekskill City School District Board of Education.

The proposed spending plan of $123,052,908 was approved by voters 317 to 64. The new budget is 6.35 percent higher than the current budget.

The tax levy is expected to rise 2 percent, which amounts to an increase of $69.08 yearly for the average Peekskill homeowner.

District officials said that the budget will support: salaries and benefits, interfund transfers, BOCES, textbooks, tuition, materials and supplies, contractual, and equipment.

Superintendent David Mauricio said that the district plans to add a teacher at Oakside Elementary, add eight special education aides throughout the schools, introduce P-TECH and Smart Scholars grants, add staff at Peekskill Middle School and Peekskill High School, modernize school facilities, and continue after-school initiatives and Saturday Academy events.

Proposition #2: establishment of the 2024 Capital Reserve for performing district-wide capital improvements passed.

Two, three-year board seats were up for election. Allen Jenkins, Jr. (incumbent) and Christina Washington were elected to those seats.
