Peekskill School Budget Results Announced

Voters in the Peekskill city school district were asked to approve a spending plan of $115.7 million.

PEEKSKILL, NY — Voters in the Peekskill school district went to the polls Tuesday to decide whether to approve the 2023-24 budget.

The proposed spending plan of $115.7 million was approved 321 to 113, according to unofficial results.

The budget is 9.7 percent higher than the current budget. District officials said they were focused on the elementary enrichment program; literacy, special education and math coaches and lower class sizes at the secondary level.

The tax levy is expected to rise just 2 percent, which is below the state's tax cap.

Two, three-year seats on the Board of Education were up for election. Incumbents Branwen MacDonald and Samuel North ran unopposed.
