Peekskill Student Honored as BOCES Student of Distinction

Peekskill High School student Kian Hunt was honored as a BOCES Student of Distinction at the Nov. 1 Peekskill Board of Education meeting.

Peekskill High School student Kian Hunt, who studies in the Law Enforcement program at the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center at PNW BOCES, was honored as a CTE Student of Distinction during the November 1 Peekskill City School District Board of Education meeting.

Though Kian arrived in the Law Enforcement Program in January of 2022, halfway through the school year, he not only made up the material from the beginning of the course, he surpassed his classmates, according to his CTE teacher, Tom Houlahan. “He is a leader, both in the academic and practical portions of the course,” Houlahan said. “He always lends a hand to help out fellow students.”

PNW BOCES Assistant Superintendent Lou Riolo, CTE Director Cathy Balestrieri, CTE Principal Preeti De and Houlahan were hosted by Peekskill Superintendent Dr. David Mauricio as well as Peekskill board members in honoring Kian.

Houlahan said, “I have the utmost confidence that Kian will find himself one day enjoying a rewarding and fulfilling career in the criminal justice field. I am so proud of him.”
