Rain, Cooler Temps Return To Hudson Valley For Weekend

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — We hope you enjoyed the warm October weather over the past few days, because there are changes on the way.

A strong cold front will approach the region Friday, bringing with it the chance for showers throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.

The chance for showers will increase through the day Friday, becoming more widespread at night. Showers will continue into Saturday and will taper off from west to east later Saturday afternoon into the evening.

Meteorologists said the showers could be moderate to locally heavy at times Friday night into Saturday, with the main threat being minor roadway flooding.

Once the cold front passes through Saturday evening, that will mark the arrival of drier and cooler air on Sunday.

Highs on Sunday will only be in the upper 50s and low 60s with west winds 15-20 mph gusting to 25-35 mph.

Temperatures for Thursday will be in the mid-70s throughout the Hudson Valley.

There will be a slight chance of showers after 2 a.m. with patchy fog and a low around 60.

On Friday, there’s a chance of showers after 8 a.m., again with patchy fog.

High temperatures will be around 70 Friday, going down to the low 60s overnight.

Here is the forecast through the weekend for northern Westchester:

  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 74. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon.
  • Thursday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers after 2am. Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a low around 60. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph.
  • Friday: A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly after 8am. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 69. East wind around 7 mph.
  • Friday Night:Showers. Low around 62. Southeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Saturday: Showers. Temperature rising to near 65 by 10am, then falling to around 59 during the remainder of the day. East wind around 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 47.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 57.
  • Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 43.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 55.
