Regal Closing 39 Theaters In U.S., Including 1 In Hudson Valley

Regal's corporate parent said it will be rejecting leases at the 39 locations in mid-February.

MOHEGAN LAKE, NY — One Hudson Valley Regal Cinemas theater is among the 39 movie houses to close, according to a court filing from Cineworld, Regal’s corporate parent.

The Regal UA Cortlandt Town Center theater in Mohegan Lake will be closing, along with other New York theaters in Buffalo, Ithaca, New York City, Rochester and Williamsville.

Cineworld Group said it will be rejecting leases at the 39 locations effective Feb. 15.

The closings are part of a bankruptcy filing by Cineworld. The company said it will save $22 million a year while continuing to work with landlords to preserve other theaters, Business Insider reported.

Other Regal locations in the Hudson Valley that were not affected include New Rochelle, Nanuet, Poughkeepsie and Fishkill.
