HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Hudson Valley residents should prepare for the possibility of severe weather Monday.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Columbia, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester counties.

The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Monday afternoon and evening.

There is the potential for a few of the storms to become strong to severe, with strong winds as the main threat.

In addition, heavy rainfall could produce areas of mainly minor flooding.
