HUDSON VALLEY, NY — With a forecast calling for thunderstorms to pop up in the region, the Hudson Valley is on the lookout for hazardous weather Tuesday and, with it, the possibility of more flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued hazardous weather outlooks for Columbia, Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

For the mid-Hudson Valley, the hazardous weather could mean strong thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening. They could become severe with locally damaging wind gusts and large hail.

Additionally, Columbia, Ulster and Dutchess counties remain under a flood watch in effect from noon through late Tuesday night.

The drill is the same as it’s been for the past several days. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Area creeks and streams are running high and cold flood with more heavy rain.

For the lower Hudson Valley, hazardous weather could include scattered thunderstorms that are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon with heavy rain possible. There is an isolated threat of flash flooding and damaging wind gusts.

As far as air quality goes, the forecast calls for moderate conditions throughout the Hudson Valley. Wildfire smoke from Canada and ozone are the culprits.
