BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY — People are starting to move into The Club at Briarcliff Manor, a new luxury senior living community that includes assisted living, independent living apartments and award-winning memory care.

On the site of the legendary Briarcliff Lodge, with panoramic views of the Hudson River, The Club at Briarcliff Manor features a mix of 87 assisted living, 167 independent living, and 33 memory care apartments in two interconnected Tudor-style buildings on 59 acres on Scarborough Road

The Club recently received from the New York State Department of Health an Enhanced Assisted Living Residence License (EALR). Assisted Living communities with an EALR can serve people who exceed the normal standards of adult homes, enriched housing, or normal assisted living. It allows residents to "age in place." EALRs can hire licensed nurses to provide and supervise care.

The Club at Briarcliff Manor echoes the rich and stately elegance of the Briarcliff Lodge, a grand resort hotel built there in 1902 on the site of the dairy farm owned by Walter Law. In the 1920s, the Briarcliff Lodge enjoyed its heyday entertaining the rich and famous including Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, Johnny Weissmuller, Tallulah Bankhead and Babe Ruth to name a few. In recognition of the property’s rich history, The Club at Briarcliff Manor features vintage photographs of the Briarcliff Lodge displayed throughout the building.

The historic building, which was used by Kings College before it moved to Manhattan, burned down in 2003. Village officials salvaged the iron entrance gates and they are now part of the historic charm of the property, which boasts grounds designed by The Olmsted Brothers, sons of the eminent landscape architect Frederick Olmsted who co-designed Central Park.

The Club features several dining venues: the main dining areas can accommodate individuals, small parties or large groups of 8 to 10 people. The dining rooms offer discrete areas for more intimate settings within the larger room. For a more casual dining experience, there’s Rockefeller’s Bistro adjacent to the main dining room. The Carnegie Room near the Bistro and lobby is a quieter place for reading and socializing. It has a juice/coffee bar that is open all day. For light dining and cocktails there is the Hudson Lounge which overlooks the main terrace. Special events can be serviced by the bar or from the main kitchen.

The Club also boasts a creative art studio, game room; fitness center and rehabilitation gym; planned social activities; 25-seat cinema with tiered seating; beauty salon and barbershop; valet parking, outdoor patios; healing garden, fireside patio, terraces, courtyard and walking paths along the pastoral grounds. A top floor observation area known as The View offers stunning panoramic vistas of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline.

“The Club at Briarcliff Manor is setting a new standard of excellence in senior living in the New York Metro area. We are very pleased at the tremendous response we have received from residents throughout the area,” said John Muzio, Executive Director The Club at Briarcliff Manor. “We are so excited to remake history and open our doors to this community. Our vision for this property has been realized so beautifully."

On the lower portion of the property, a soccer field was constructed by The Club for the Village’s recreational use.
