Two Table Tennis Stars To Compete This Weekend At The June Westchester Open

The Westchester Open, at the Westchester Table Tennis Center in Pleasantville, offers more than $5,000 in prizes each month.

Pleasantville, NY - One of the stars to compete this weekend in the June Westchester Open is Yadira Silva, the No. 1 female player in Mexico, who represented her country at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

Her many achievements include gold medals at the 2010 Latin American Championships and the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games. She is competing at this weekend's Westchester tournament in part to prepare again for this summer's Olympics in Rio, where she will again represent Mexico.

The other star is Olajide Omotayo, a male from Lagos, Nigeria. Just 21 years old, he is already ranked #635 among men in the world. Known for his fierce attack, Omotayo has competed in ITTF World Tour events in Qatar, Kuwait, India, Morocco, Congo, Tunisia, and elsewhere, amassing an impressive record. This will be his first trip to the United States.

The Westchester Open, at the Westchester Table Tennis Center, 175 Tompkins Ave. in Pleasantville, offers more than $5,000 in prizes each month. It is the largest monthly table tennis tournament in North America, drawing top players from across the country and around the world.

The open event, for the highest-rated players, starts Sunday, June 26, at 2 pm. Tickets for spectators are $10 -- free for child (under 20) with paid adult
