Yeshiva, Nyack College Owners Buy Former Pace Briarcliff Campus

This is the second old college campus the new owners have bought recently. They're fighting with South Nyack over building and safety codes.

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY — The Hasidic congregation that bought Nyack College last year and is now in Rockland Supreme Court over local and state building and safety codes has purchased the old Briarcliff College campus, The Journal News reported.

Khal Torath Chiam of Rockland paid $11.75 million for the property. The congregation is consolidating. Its address is Village Hall in the Rockland community of Kaser, writer Steve Lieberman reported.

The campus was sold at a loss. The property had been bought for $17.35 million in 2017 by a non-profit owned by the CEO of Fang Holdings Ltd, based in Beijing, from Pace University. SEE: Chinese-Backed Buyer Adds Pace's Briarcliff Campus to Hudson Valley Holdings.

It had been empty since Pace, which had housed students in the old Briarcliff College dorms, completed its extensive expansion and renovation of the Pleasantville campus a few miles away. SEE: Pace Selling Briarcliff, White Plains Campuses.

The property at Elm and Tuttle roads in Briarcliff consists of nine buildings on 37 acres.

The buildings range in size from 13,041 square feet to 111,915 square feet and support a variety of uses including office, student housing, dining, recreational and educational. The expansive grounds also feature tennis courts and ball fields.

They're now fighting with the village of South Nyack, which filed suit against the congregation last week for starting a school and making structural changes without complying with state, county or village codes and laws. SEE: Village Says Yeshiva Operating Illegally At Nyack College.
