Operation 'Clean Sweep' Coming to A Port Washington Block Near You

Residents should refrain from parking on town roads from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the cleaning. Check out the full schedule.

Street sweepers will hit the roads of Port Washington for some “spring cleaning” in May.

Crews from the Town of North Hempstead will clean up the remaining debris this winter left behind in the annual Operation: Clean Sweep. It is a two week initiative that will sweep every inch of road in North Hempstead.

“The winter leaves the streets full of dirt and debris, which is in part the result of sanding our roads to keep them safe over the winter months,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said in a press release. “That’s why Operation: Clean Sweep is so important! It will make our roads cleaner and safe for motorists and cyclists. This is North Hempstead’s spring cleaning.”

North Hempstead's "Clean Sweep" program begins Monday, April 25, and runs through Friday, May 6.

Sweepers will be in Port Washington on Monday, May 2 to Tuesday, May 3. See the full schedule below for details.

Last year’s Operation: Clean Sweep collected 5 million pounds of debris, according to the Town of North Hempstead. Officials are expecting an even higher total this year.

The Town of North Hempstead asks that residents refrain from parking vehicles on town roads from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the cleaning.

All areas not within incorporated villages and south of the Long Island Expressway will be swept from Monday, April 25 to Friday, April 29. All areas not within incorporated villages and north of the Long Island Expressway will be swept from Monday, May 2 to Friday, May 6.

Dates are subject to change based on weather conditions and volume of debris.
