Act Locally For International Coastal Cleanup

The events in Port Washington are hosted by the Manhasset Bay Protection Committee.​

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Manhasset Bay Protection Committee is participating in this year's International Coastal Cleanup with two events — Aug. 3 and Sept. 21.

The International Coastal Cleanup run by the Ocean Conservancy, in partnership with volunteer organizations and individuals around the globe, engages people to remove trash from the world’s beaches and waterways. Since its beginning, more than 17 million volunteers have collected more than 350 million pounds of trash, conservancy officials said.

  • Aug. 3: 9 a.m. at Manorhaven Beach, 158 Manorhaven Blvd., Port Washington
  • Sept. 21: 9:30 a.m. at Bay Walk Park, 64 Shore Road, Port Washington

The work is suitable for volunteers of any age. Groups such as Scout troops are welcome, as are families and individuals.

Latex gloves, buckets, trash bags, and snacks will be provided. You should bring tick spray, water and water bottle, sunscreen, and bug repellent. Wear old clothes and protective shoes that can get wet and don't forget a hat.
