WATCH: Humpback Whale Plays in Long Island Sound Waters

A bunch of lucky people going fishing witnessed the amazing sight of a humpback whale breaching Long Island Sound waters on Saturday, Sept. 19.

To the amazement of the many people watching, the whale can be seen splashing out of the water several times.

Patch reached out to the owner of the video to see where in the Long Island Sound the whale was spotted. One person in the video can be heard saying they may be near Norwalk, CT.

Another person is heard saying, “We’re just near Darien.”

Humpback whales are bringing excitement to Long Island Sound waters again, and no one is complaining.

A humpback whale was first seen at the Execution Rocks Lighthouse on Labor Day morning. Three humpback whales were recently spotted playing near Huntington waters on Saturday, Tech Times reported.

Humpback whales are one of the most commonly seen whales in New York waters despite them being one of the most endangered of the large whales, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reports.

There are only about 2,000 to 4,000 humpback whales left in the western North Atlantic, according to the DEC.
