PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Free skate lessons, margarita workshops and no shortage of live music is headed toProspect Heights' most popular Open Street to wrap up the summer months.

The organizers of the Vanderbilt Avenue Open Street — which closes traffic on warm-weather weekends between Atlantic Avenue and Park Place — have revealed their line-up of events for August.

The monthly line-up will include more of popular Salsa Salsa Dance Studio's free classes, a slate of live music options, several kids activities and a queer-focused skate workshop.

Saturday, August 6

  • Salsa Salsa Dance Studio returns with a free class at 5pm, followed by social dancing!
  • Play:groundNYC pop up guides kids in creating art with recycled materials - they bring the play to you!

Sunday, August 7

  • At 3pm, welcome the Marta Sanchez Quintet, a contemporary jazz ensemble & all original music.

Saturday, August 13

  • At 2pm, Wayne Tucker & The Bad Mothas perform music ranging from Stevie Wonder to Miles Davis!
  • At 5pm Dawn Drake & ZapOte perform original “Tropical Pop” incorporating Funk, Timba, Samba & more!

Sunday, August 14

  • 1pm, Riders Alliance joins us to discuss their work to make NYC transit more equitable and sustainable.
  • At 3pm, Axiom Addicts performs high-energy original rock & roll.

Saturday, August 20

  • At 5pm, join the staff of Alta Calidad & learn to master the Art of the Margarita!

Sunday, August 21

  • At 3pm, Bloco from da Block leads us through the magic of Brazil! A workshop of costumes, dancing & music culminates in a parade along Vanderbilt with their troupe – grown ups and kids encouraged!

Saturday, August 27

  • At 5pm, L Train Brass Band infuses NOLA-style jazz with that of British, Latin & Balkan bands, as well ashiphop, funk & pop.

Sunday, August 28

  • At 3pm, QueerSkateBrooklyn offers complimentary lessons, followed by free-skate & the opportunity to connect with queer vendors & groups focused on mental health — all organized by Dave's Lesbian Bar.
