CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A new restaurant on Eastern Parkway is taking a more soulful approach to farm-to-table eating.

The New Jersey-based chain "Cornbread: Farm to Soul" recently launched its first New York City location in Crown Heights, serving up its soul food favorites on the ground floor of a new building between Rogers and Bedford avenues.

The Eastern Parkway location is one of two founders Adenah Bayou and Elzadie "Zadie" Smith plan to open in the borough this year, Gothamist first reported.

"I wanted to bring something badass to Brooklyn, because Brooklyn's a badass place," Bayoh told the outlet. "The energy, the welcome, the love for what we're doing has been next level here."

Smith and Bayoh, originally in the real estate industry, first opened Cornbread in New Jersey five years ago to honor cooking they learned from their parents in Georgia and Liberian grandmother, respectively, they told Gothamist.

The menu includes an array of fried chicken meals, fried fish meals, ribs, soul-food sides and, of course, cornbread.

"From the first ingredient, to the right combination of seasoning, to the final product, we’ve worked hard to develop the flavor profiles of every single dish," Cornbread writes on its website.

The eatery sources its ingredients from local farmers and shops and operates as a fast-casual dining spot.

In addition to the Eastern Parkway location, Smith and Bayoh have plans to open a Cornbread on Ralph Avenue in Bed-Stuy, Gothamist reports.
