60 FDNY Firefighters Battle Queens Barge Fire

QUEENS, NY — 60 firefighters were needed to put out a barge fire in Queens overnight Tuesday, the FDNY said.

The fire broke out around 930 p.m. on a barge near the Sims Metal scrapyard in Long Island City.

It took around five hours for firefighters to get the fire under control, the FDNY said.

The FDNY fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

The fire may have started from lithium-ion batteries, according to multiple media reports.
