Greenburgh Tech Angels expanding program for seniors

Helping seniors navigate technology

Last year Josh Topf and Avery Yee both students at Edgemont Jr./Sr. High School, formed Tech Angels, a volunteer organization that aims to help senior citizens navigate the complex world of technology. The Tech Angels hold sessions at the Theodore Young Community Center every other week during the fall/winter/spring months. A Tech Angels initiative was also established in Larchmont. And other students are planning to organize a similar initiative in Irvington. The Tech Angels welcome any senior resident who is looking for guidance.

The Creation of Tech Angels

Having been immersed in technology from a young age, Josh and Avery naturally developed the essential skills required to adapt and keep up with the ever-changing world of technology. Their idea to start this initiative originally stemmed from personal experience with their grandparents. Whilst teaching their grandparents simple tips and tricks on their iPhones and iPads, it occurred to them that there are most likely many other senior citizens with similar challenges and no one to help them.

The angels recognize that our world today is vastly different from how it was in the past. It is crucial to equip those who struggle with technology with the necessary knowledge. The goal is to expand Tech Angels to various locations throughout Westchester County, ensuring that as many senior citizens as possible receive the help they deserve.

Their mission statement says, we want to “ensure that senior citizens feel comfortable when dipping into the world of technology.”
