WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — If you're planning on spending time along the Hudson River in the foreseeable future, you might want to dust off your favorite alternate routes.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will be paving Route 9 from Hastings-on-Hudson to around I-287 in Tarrytown, starting Monday night. In order to pave the entire stretch, the project will take about six to eight weeks, with a scheduled break during the week of June 30, due to July 4.

All work will take place from Sunday through Thursday, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The work will start from the southern border of Hastings-on-Hudson and proceed through Dobbs Ferry, Irvington and Tarrytown.

Each portion of paving will cover around 6,000 feet and will take five to six days to complete.

Work will begin from Farragut Ave. to Chestnut St. in Dobbs Ferry. That will be followed by Chestnut St. to Ashford Avenue in Dobbs Ferry, then Ashford Ave. to Gracemere Rd. in Tarrytown.

Drivers should plan on delays and neighbors can expect noise, dust, and temporary night lighting. Officials say that efforts will be made to minimize these impacts, and work areas will remain safe, clean and open to traffic during the day. Those traveling at night might experience delays in the construction areas.

All work is subject to change based upon the progress of the paving and weather.

Village-specific information:

Hastings-on-Hudson officials asked residents to avoid driving in the area during the night hours as much as possible due to the workers, equipment and trucks. No parking will be permitted on Route 9 during milling and paving operations.

Dobbs Ferry officials said that no parking will be permitted on the street during the evenings at the locations of active paving or striping. Any cars left in active work areas will be towed by NYSDOT to the Dobbs Ferry Waterfront Park parking lot. Residents living in the construction area should park overnight on Main St. or Cedar St. or one of the nearby side streets. Alternate side of the street restrictions will be suspended to make more parking available.

Irvington officials said that based on the current schedule, work will not begin in Irvington until June 24, at the earliest, starting with only a small section of the southern portion of Irvington, south of Ardsley Ave. Most of the work in Irvington (north of Ardsley Ave.) will not begin until after July 8. For the limited areas where overnight parking is available on Broadway, those residents are encouraged to park on Main St. instead.
