A few months ago Greenburgh lost two publications: The Scarsdale Inquirer and the Rivertowns Enterprise. Some good news: Janine Annett has launched a new online publication called Rivertowns Current. I interviewed Janine on Solving Problems. She discusses her publication and extensive experience as a reporter. This new source of local news already has recruited several experienced reporters for their publication. Their calendar of events is already very popular and they publish interesting stories.

The Rivertowns Current has 575 subscribers (and growing), including 124 paid subscribers. They have a nice working relationship with the HudsonIndependent and have been cross-posting each other's stories. The events listings have been very robust, with many people submitting local events. They have covered things like new local businesses, the school budget, tax breaks for seniors and first responders, the local arts scene, local dining, local sports, sustainability issues, and more... with much more to come

A shoutout to Lucas Cioffi who led the effort to find a way to save local news publications and to encourage the start up of new local publications. Mr. Cioffi, along with Sandra Nam, QiqoChat Inc and the Westchester Youth Congress organized a very impressive community meeting in February attended by over 300 residents including Janine Annett. It is so important in a democracy to have independent news organizations. The Rivertowns Current and other current and future local news outlets are good news for democracy and for our community.
