ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY – Compass will plant its footprint deeper into the village as it plans to open a permanent office in the heart of the village this spring.

The New York City-based real estate firm that opened a temporary office in Rockville Centre last summer is currently building a new 3,100-square-foot facility at 298 Merrick Rd., formerly home to The Little Gym of Rockville Centre, according to Brian Maguire, a Long Island regional sales manager for Compass.

Following the company's practice of first establishing temporary offices in new markets, Compass started to lease a fourth-floor unit in the office building at 100 Merrick Rd., in July 2021. The new, permanent office down the road is expected to open in May.

“We would prefer to have a community storefront that’s visible to the people who we get to serve,” Maguire said about building the new office. “It’s just good to be right in the middle of town.”

The new office will be among a series of new business at storefronts on the south side of Merrick Road, one block east of Park Avenue, which includes a Douglass Elliman office that opened in 2020 and a new urgent care facility slated to debut this summer.

“We have a philosophy of serving other real estate agents who want to work under the Compass umbrella,” Maguire said. “We serve agents that are local to Rockville Centre and Oceanside out of that [temporary] office. So, we’re just really excited to be able to open the new doors and provide a high level service to the real estate brokers around town, and get to work with buyers and sellers in the market that we are in.”

Headquartered in Manhattan, Compass has offices nationwide, from Washington D.C. to Chicago to San Diego to Honolulu, as well as 18 on Long Island.

While Compass in 2021 expanded into 25 additional markets, grew its market share to 5.6 percent, and increased revenues 72.6 percent to $6.4 billion, the firm also reported a $100 million loss in the year’s third quarter and a $175 million loss in the fourth quarter, according to The Real Deal.
