Pedestrian, 27, Dies After Being Struck On LI: PD

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A pedestrian died after being struck by a car Saturday afternoon in Hempstead, police said.

According to Nassau County police, the homicide squad is investigating the crash, which occurred at 4:08 p.m. While attempting to cross on Front Street, from the south side to the north side, a male pedestrian was struck by a 2004 Honda traveling westbound on Front Street, police said.

The man, 27, suffered trauma to his head and body; he was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:32 p.m. by a hospital physician, police said.

The female operator, 20, remained at the scene; the vehicle was brake and safety checked, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
