Here's the Dirt On That Gravel Truck Rollover That Closed I-95 In Rye

Because of the extent of the crash and the rocky debris in the road, the thruway was shut down and traffic was diverted for about an hour.

RYE, NY — I-95 is among the busiest highways in the country and when there's trouble on the New England Thruway, the Rye Fire Department often gets the call.

On Monday, at 11:13 am, the Rye Fire Department was dispatched to Interstate 95 southbound, near Exit 19, for a tractor-trailer rollover.

The first units to arrive on the scene found that a dump truck had rolled over on its side with its gravel load spread across the roadway. An SUV was also involved in the crash.

The drivers of both vehicles were able to escape on their own and were taken to the hospital by Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS.

Rye firefighters assisted with scene safety, initial evaluation of injuries, and fluid clean-up.

Because of the extent of the crash and the rocky debris in the roadway, the interstate was shut down and traffic was diverted to exit 19 for about an hour. Firefighters reported the scene was cleared at 12:21 pm.

Incidents that occur on the interstate receive a response from multiple agencies, including Rye and Port Chester Fire Departments. Along with EMS, firefighters responded with New York State Police, the New York State Department of Transportation, and Vincent Service Inc.
