Hundreds Celebrate Rye Derby’s 25th Anniversary

Runners of all ages participated in the annual event.

The blue skies, sunshine and a 65 degree day set the perfect conditions for the 25th Annual Rye Derby and Healthy Kids Day on Sunday, April 25. The hundreds of runners, walkers and joggers lined up at the starting line by Chase on Purchase Street and followed either a 5K (3.2 miles), five mile or one mile route. The event is the Rye YMCA’s largest fundraiser of the year.

Runners felt good after the morning 5 mile and 5K races, many exchanging times and congratulating each other on finishing. After the 10:15 a.m. race, participants enjoyed free food, fruit, Longford’s ice cream and other treats offered by the events many sponsors. The one mile fun run/walk started at 12:15 p.m.
