200 Free Turkeys To Be Given Out To Military Families In Sayville

The event is not based on economic need, instead, it has been designed as a "thank you" to military service members, ambulance company says.

SAYVILLE, NY — Around 200 turkeys will be given out to military families on Sunday at the Community Ambulance Company in Sayville.

It will run from 10 a.m. to noon at 420 Lakeland Ave.

The event is not based on economic need, instead, it has been designed as a "thank you" to military service members. The donations will include 10 to 14-lb turkeys, as well as trimmings.

The event will include dignitaries such as Gold Star Mother Maureen Murphy, the mother of Medal of Honor recipient U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy, and Steve Castleton, a representative from Secretary of the U.S. Army's office.

The Connetquot School District's lacrosse teams, coordinated by state Assemb. Jarett Gandolfo and Islip Councilman John Lorenzo's offices, will be on hand to give out bags with additional sides and fixings to each of the veterans who attend.

The event is a partnership between the ambulance company and Suffolk Credit Union, Miller & Caggiano LLP, Northwell Health - South Shore University Hospital, The Tap Room, and Dash Simplified Solutions.
