Acclaimed author to speak at Long Island Maritime Museum

The museum is hosting the award winning author James L. Nelson, for a free lecture titled “Rated Arrgh! A look at the truth and myths of piracy during the Golden Age”

Nelson’s books strive to bring renewed focus on the maritime world, from the Viking raiders of the 9th Century to the naval action of the American Revolution and the Civil War. Born and raised in Lewiston Maine, he graduated from UCLA with a degree in motion picture and television production. Following his time spent in southern California, Nelson spent six years working on board traditional sailing ships. It was during this time that he decided he had some wonderful stories to tell and it would be easier and more fun to write about sailing rather than actually doing it! He has since written seventeen works of maritime fiction and nonfiction and is a highly sought after lecturer having appeared on the Discovery Channel, History Channel and Books TV.
