Teen Critically Injured After Crashing Pickup Truck

The 18-year-old was partially ejected after his truck overturned on Vets Memorial Highway Monday morning.

BAYPORT, NY - A Medford teen was critically injured after a crash on Veterans Memorial Highway in Bayport Monday morning, according to Suffolk Police.

James Cermak was driving a 2000 Toyota pickup truck eastbound on the highway when he lost control of the truck, causing it to overturn at the merge with eastbound Sunrise Service Road at 10:34 a.m.

The 18-year-old was partially ejected from the truck. A passing driver used a car jack to lift the pickup off him.

Cermak was then airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. He was listed in critical condition.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
