BABYLON, NY —Road races are back on Long Island, post pandemic, and the Suffolk Marathon is one of the biggest local events. After a year off due to COVID-19 in 2020, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced during a Thursday news conference that the event will be back this October. Sunday, October 24th will be the seventh annual running of the race.

The race, which previously began in Heckscher Park in East Islip, will now start in Babylon Village and end in Bay Shore. Catholic Health is the title sponsor.

Corey Roberts from Race Awesome, who will run the event, said the race will start in downtown Babylon Village, run past Good Samaritan Hospital, and then head across the Captree Bridge and Robert Moses Bridge and end in Gardiner's Park.

"This is such an amazing course," Bellone said.

Bellone emphasized that the race will benefit veterans: "With every step you take, whether you're walking, running, going for a record, or like me just trying to finish, you know you are supporting" veterans.

Babylon Village Mayor Mary A. Adams said that there will be a pre-race pasta night in Babylon, open to everyone, the night before the race.

There will be a 5K, 10K, a family 5K run/walk, a half marathon and a full marathon and all proceeds will go to veteran-supporting charities.
