The Bristal Holds Virtual Flower Pot Planting Program for Seniors

The Bristal Assisted Living and the Long Island Alzheimer's & Dementia Center Hold Virtual Flower Pot Planting Program for Seniors Across LI

The Bristal Assisted Living communities and the Long Island Alzheimer’s & Dementia Center hosted a crafting program via Zoom which was open to all Long Island Seniors and their caregivers.

The two-part class was intended for older adults and individuals with dementia or memory-related cognitive disorders to participate along with their family members and/or caregivers.

“Although there is nothing like the power of a live in- person experience, obstacles and challenges always bring new and unexpected opportunities,” said Raquel Giberstein, who took part in the program with her parents Mirella and Ory Giberstein of Albertson. “I was allowed to participate in and share some really fun and special experiences with my mom and dad. It actually opens the door to new possibilities even when quarantine is over to maybe have a class or two where family or loved ones can join in offering a whole new element and enthusiasm.”

Ms. Giberstein was very impressed with The Bristal’s concept and execution of the program. “The class was so well put together. The box of supplies was so beautiful and generated excitement. It’s a great idea to combine the craft aspect with the planting part so that the project lives on with something fun and surprising to check on every day. Both of our flower pots have lots of sprouts already.”

The free program was led by the Director of Recreation from The Bristal at North Hills, Casey Drum. “The Bristal was very excited to showcase how we can use technology to support the senior population with creative arts programming for our residents, as well as seniors in the community during times like these.” Julie Wexler, Director of Business Development for The Bristal stated, “Today’s caregivers face many challenges, including isolation. With over 20 years of experience caring for seniors, The Bristal understands the unique burdens caregivers face. This programs offered a chance for caregivers to connect with others, while offering their loved ones an engaging activity.”
