Man Dies After Being Struck By 2 Cars On Sunrise Service Road

The 70-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

OAKDALE, NY – A 70-year-old man died after being struck by two cars while he was attempting to cross a Sunrise Highway service road Friday afternoon, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, George Collins, of Islip was trying to cross the eastbound Sunrise Highway service road, about a half-mile west of Oakdale Bohemia Road, at about 3:55 p.m.

Irene Pastor was driving a 2018 Hyundai in the left lane when she struck Collins. Collins ended up in the right lane and then was struck by a 2016 Ford driven by Dyan Sybalski.

Collins was pronounced dead at the scene. Pastor, 77, of Oakdale, and Sybalski, 44, of Oakdale stayed at the scene and were not injured.
