'Finding Fire Island' Docu-Podcast To Premiere July 6

Featuring celebrity guests like Margaret Cho, the podcast will explore the history of the "queer mecca"

FIRE ISLAND, NY — Before you take that trip to Fire Island this summer, why not brush up on its history with your favorite stars.

A new docu-podcast series, "Finding Fire Island" will premiere on July 6. The Broadway Podcast Network produced show "brings to life how a sleepy, 19th century beach town" became a modern day "queer mecca" for artists and the New York City theater community.

"We will take you behind the curtain of the mystique, legends and lore of the LGBT communities (Cherry Grove and The Pines), from folks who experienced their evolution from the 1950s to today," the podcast's description said.

Hosted by producer and native New Yorker Jess Rothschild, the podcast will feature celebrities like Margaret Cho and Joel Kim Booster, stars of the 2022 romantic comedy, "Fire Island."

Other guests include: DJ Lina Bradford, Matt Rodgers (comedian and actor), Paul Rudnick (screenwriter and playwright of The First Wives Club, Jeffrey, Sister Act, In & Out); Bob "Rose" Levine (legendary Cherry Grove performer since 1955; Invasion of The Pines) and more.

"Queer history has often been told through the lens of loss and disappearance, but Fire Island has transcended that to survive as a stunning fantasy world and cultural touchstone," the podcast's description said.

"Finding Fire Island" will be available on all podcast platforms.
